ASEEES Solidarity Mutual Aid Grants
Developments in recent years have highlighted the financial precarity confronted by many of our colleagues in Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies. For contingently-employed graduate and faculty instructors in the SEEES field, the impacts of institutional austerity, rising living costs and other economic factors are particularly acute, warranting active intervention.
To support contingent faculty and graduate student members based in the US with urgent financial need, the Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies has established a small-grant program in collaboration with the Working Group for Solidarity in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies, an ASEEES affiliate organization.
ASEEES member for the current year or at least one year in the last three years (joint members not eligible)
Graduate student in the fifth or greater year of a PhD program in the US* at the time of application, or
Contingent faculty based in the US*, including adjunct instructors, visiting lecturers, part-time visiting assistant professors, and independent or unemployed scholars who are currently seeking employment as instructors in the field
Has an urgent financial need (applicant not required to explain the need)
*At present, eligibility is also limited to members based in the United States, though we hope to expand the program to include international scholars in future application rounds.
To apply for financial assistance, please complete the online application (ASEEES member site login required). Applications will be accepted twice, with deadlines of March 1 and September 1. Applicants will be eligible to apply for up to $250, with grants disbursed on a first-come, first-served basis for each application round. Applicant may receive the grant once.
As a mutual aid initiative, our hope is to sustain the grant program through fundraising, supplementing the financial resources that ASEEES has committed to establish the program. For those in a position to make a financial contribution to support the mutual aid grant program, we encourage you to donate here.
