Emily Wang

Emily Wang is an Assistant Professor of Russian at the University of Notre Dame. Previously, she taught at the University of Southern California and The College of New Jersey. She earned her BA in Russian from Wesleyan University and her MA and PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Princeton University. Her research, which has appeared in SEEJ, Russian Review, and Slavic Review, examines nineteenth- and twentieth-century Russian poetry within historical and political context. In her current book project, Civic Sentimentalism: Pushkin and the Decembrists, she shows how literature helped create political and emotional communities during the reign of Alexander I.

Wang is an active member of the field. She served on the steering committee of the Association for Diversity in Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies from 2013-2017, during which she helped create study abroad resources for undergraduate students and the ASEEES Diversity and Inclusion Travel Grant. She also served on the AATSEEL Graduate Student committee from 2013-2016, representing the latter on AATSEEL Board during the 2015-2016 academic year. Since 2016, she has also edited Pushkin Review, her term ending in 2019 with Issue 21. She would be honored to serve the ASEEES community as a member of the Board of Directors.
